FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1 – WHAT TYPES OF SURFACES DOES G-S HYPO CEMENT GLUE TOGETHER?

We developed G-S Hypo Cement in the 1930s for use in the watchmaking and jewelry repair industries. It is a combination fine precision tool and clear-drying, medium-strength cement that will not craze plastic material or damage precious surfaces. It is a sealing and water-proofing cement. The cement is ideal for plastic, glass, metal, ceramics, painted or sealed woods and other non-porous surfaces. It is widely used with Swarovski crystals and does not damage foil backings. Cleaning and sterilizing agents can prevent the cement from bonding properly, so it is important to be sure that all surfaces are clean and dry before using the cement.

G-S Hypo is also used for many optical and industrial applications, like fine screw locking and precision assembly. Technical information about the optical properties of G-S Hypo Cement can be found on the following web page: https://gssupplies.com/gs-hypo-cement/

2 – IS G-S HYPO A CYANOACRYLATE (CA) CEMENT?

No. G-S Hypo will not fuse surfaces and will not bond fingers together. Excess cement can be removed easily with a little rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover on a Q-tip.

3 – DO YOU HAVE DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO USE G-S HYPO CEMENT?

Yes. Please see the attached User Guidelines for detailed usage instructions.

4 – WHERE CAN I FIND A COPY OF THE SAFETY DATA SHEET FOR G-S HYPO CEMENT?

The Safety Data Sheet for G-S Hypo Cement is available on the G-S Hypo Cement information page at https://gssupplies.com/gs-hypo-cement/

5 – THERE IS A NUMBER PRINTED ON THE CRIMPED END OF THE G-S HYPO CEMENT TUBE. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

Every tube of G-S Hypo Cement has a batch number printed on the crimped end of the tube and on the back of the carton. If you have a question about when your tube of G-S Hypo Cement was manufactured, please Contact Us with this batch number.

6 – WHAT IS THE SHELF-LIFE OF G-S HYPO CEMENT?

We guarantee G-S Hypo Cement for one year. Generally, the cement lasts up to 2 years if stored at room temperature. After this amount of time, the liquid components of the formulation can begin to evaporate, making the cement thicker and more difficult to dispense through the applicator. The cement should never be refrigerated or stored in a hot or cold warehouse.

7 – WHERE CAN I PURCHASE G-S HYPO CEMENT?

G-S Hypo Cement is available at major craft stores throughout the USA and Canada (Michael’s, BeadSmith, Hobby Lobby, JoAnn Fabrics, Fire Mountain Gems, Rio Grande), and at many smaller beading, hobby and craft stores. It is also available through many online stores. Please be sure to purchase G-S Hypo from a reputable seller. We do not recommend purchasing G-S Hypo through ebay. Never purchase G-S Hypo if the seller is shipping from China. We ship G-S Hypo Cement worldwide.

9 – DOES G-S OFFER WATCH CRYSTAL REPLACEMENT SERVICES

No. We are a manufacturer and distributor. We do not employ a watchmaker. If you need a watch crystal replaced, please take your watch to a qualified watchmaker or jeweler who fits watch crystals. Many jewelers offer this service.

10 – DOES G-S OFFER WATCH CRYSTAL REPLACEMENT SERVICES

Sometimes. If you provide us with a sketch of the crystal with all dimensions in millimeters (top view and side view), we may be able to identify a close match. We prefer that you bring your watch to a watchmaker or jeweler, who has the expertise to select and properly fit a new watch crystal. If you need a plastic watch crystal, you can view our online watch crystal catalog to try to identify the crystal you need. Please see the Table of Contents in the catalog for information about the various plastic crystal styles that we stock. The link to the catalog can be found on the following web page:  https://gssupplies.com/crystal-catalogs/

11 – CAN G-S MANUFACTURE ONE REPLACEMENT CRYSTAL FOR MY WATCH?

Sometimes. This depends on the watch crystal design. Sometimes there is a stock watch crystal available that can be adapted to fit your case. (A watchmaker or jeweler can usually determine if a close match is available.) If there is no match and you provide us with a sketch of the crystal with all dimensions in millimeters (top view and side view), we can determine if one replacement crystal can be manufactured.
